A Few Words on our Intent
What is This Place and What Does it Want From You?
The UK Steampunk Network is an open club house that anyone interested in the Steampunk scene in the United Kingdom can visit. This is a place to get involved, befriend other Steampunks, become part of the community and help make a scene everyone can be involved in.
There’s an awful lot going on in the community, from small gatherings to art exhibits to virtual communities to gigs and festivals. There’s projects floating around for people to get involved in, magazines and books to be read, forum-based communities to be part of, tinkerers wanting to teach, and amateur seamstresses and seamsters wanting to learn.
The UK Steampunk Network is a place for everyone and anyone in the UK to tell others about gatherings they’re organising, events they’re attending, albums they’re releasing, books they’ve just had published, magazines they’re contributing to... There’s an incredible wealth of Steampunk talent lurking in the corners, groups and organisations circulating in their own circles, jewels being lost in the chaos and noise of modern life. Here is a place for the disparate individuals and groups to find each other, for cross-pollination to happen, inspiration to be traded and friends to be made.
We have a calendar with events marked so people can see what’s coming up and make plans, we have our own forum so plans can be made, we have links to the wider world and we have plenty of articles of our own. If you’re wondering what Steampunk is and how to get hold of your first top hat, this is a good place to find out what you’re in for. If you’ve got brass rivets on your brass rivets and clockwork cat nuzzling your steam-powered computation engine, this is the place to come and be yourself and infect others with your love for what you do.
